DOE Office of Science – Early Career Research Program (2026)

Funding will support outstanding early career scientists at universities, DOE National Laboratories, and Office of Science user facilities.

  • Eligibility: Untenured, tenure-track assistant/associate professors at U.S. academic institutions, or full-time employees at DOE National Laboratories / Office of Science User Facilities, within 10 years of PhD.
  • Award size: ~$875,000 (universities) over 5 years; ~$2,750,000 (DOE labs/user facilities) over 5 years.
  • Office of Science program offices: ASCR, BER, BES, FES, HEP, NP, Isotope R&D and Production.
  • Mandatory pre-application: March 24, 2026 (5:00 p.m. ET).
  • Full application: June 2, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET). Only encouraged pre-applications may submit.

DOE BES – Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRC) Call (recent)

The Office of Basic Energy Sciences (BES) periodically issues EFRC calls to support multi-investigator, center-scale fundamental research.

  • Center-style awards focused on mission-relevant basic science (BES priorities).
  • Competitive, peer-reviewed, and topic-scoped in the announcement.
